Australia was an outpost of Britain. The White Australia Policy allowed

European migrants to settle.

Between 1945 and 1965, two million migrants came. The

government paid their fares under the "populate or perish" slogan. It helped 170,000 displaced persons

to migrate fro war-torn europe during the Cold War.
