In this powerpoint, I will go through the mise-en-scene for my A2 music video. After conducting primary and secondary research, I decided what I want in the music video. I will assess the costume, lighting, actors, make up, props and settings for my video.

CostumeI have taken costume into great consideration for my video as it is very important for my chosen band in each of their music videos. Below are some pictures of costumes they have chosen for their videos. For some videos, they chose to have the singer (Tyler) wear black paint on his hands and sometimes neck. This itself has a meaning to their fan base. Because of the meanings behind their costume, I have decided to wear a long sleeve t-shirt underneath a short sleeve shirt. This is because the long black sleeves relates to Tyler and promotes the artist in a way the fans will know. The shirt I have chosen to wear has shapes all over the front and back, this will look good as it doesn’t look very ordinary or plain which suits the genre as it can create enigma and also a bit of mystery. I have also chosen another costume to wear which will consist of a grey jumper and trousers, which contrasts with the other clothing and will suit the scenes it will be used in, as it shows I am dressed casually.

LightingThe lighting for my music video will mainly be natural lighting as it will be filmed mostly outside. This means the weather will be a factor I need to take into consideration, which I have done. For the setting of the woods, I will want it to rain, and if it is raining, this means the natural lighting will be grey and dull, which will signify the distraught of the main character. For the remaining outdoor settings, I will aim to film in nice, summer weather which will contrast with the dullness of the woods. For the indoor settings, the lighting will consist of what the houses have, which means the rooms will be well lit, and not dark as it will be harder to see what is happening.

Actors

For actors, I have decided to be the main character of the video, and also Shaun Smith will play the part of the main characters friend. We will be the only actors and people used in the music video, this is because the video is about friendship, and we both fit in the range of the target audience which is around 17 – 23 year olds. This makes the actors relatable to the target audience which is a convention most commonly used within the Indie pop genre. I myself know what body language and facial expressions I will want used in my character to feel in which scenes to link to my song, such as loneliness which I could show by slouching my body and have my head down, which can also be seen as depression being represented. By choosing my Shaun, I know he is capable of doing the same and what I need him to do within the video.

Make up

I have decided no make up is needed for the video, as it will draw attention away from the narrative of the video and as both characters within the video are male and it would be seen as unusual for both to be wearing any make up which stands out for this particular genre. There isn’t any make up that I could use to signify anything or any which could make my video more interesting for my target audience.

Props

Within the video, there will be a couple props which are not very significant but help the plot. There will be two controls within the first scene which will only be on screen for a short period of time but are still important for the story to make sense. There will also be two teacups which will be used within the video, this will only be used within a scene which both characters will be present. Another two props will be game controllers, which will be used within a scene which both characters are present.

SettingsThe first setting of the video will be the bedroom of one of the characters, and it will not be in the video for long, this will be used as it shows the main character getting ready to go out. One of the locations will be a woods, which will be look empty and desolate which will be very important as only one of the characters will be present and this will enhance the feeling of loneliness. Another location are some abandoned train tracks, this can be seen as quite dangerous as it won’t be apparent that the tracks are not used anymore. This gives the audience the sense of danger due to the risk of a train coming . This is a location which would fit the location convention for genre. Another location will be a bridge, I will be using the edge of the bridge on top, and also underneath the bridge which looks like a tunnel.
