Drake

We will have a look at Drake’s most successful album “Take Care”, which was released in November, 2011

Also we will look at the music video from it also called “Take Care” which he made together with Rihanna

The main similarity between Drake’s site and his music video ‘Take Care’ is that they both are simplistic- the site having a minimalistic layout and colour scheme of black text and white background while the music video uses low saturation pastel colours.

The use of Drake’s signature on the website and the casual handwriting style font seems to personalise his website allowing the consumers to ‘connect’ with his website. This could link in with his music video as he has very personal and emotional lyrics, and is very emotional as in the video, the only people involved are Drake and Rihanna.

The use of parallel editing between the bull and Drake, and the bird and Rihanna, gives the impression that each animal represents each character. This is in relation with the golden bird and painting of the bird in the album cover, which suggests it is the only thing Drake cares about. Therefore relating with the album name itself: ‘Take Care’, which connotes that we should take care of people that we love.

The main difference is the colour scheme of the website and the album cover. The colour scheme of the website reflects the latest release of his newest album

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds

Both group’s site and album cover have a lot in common: a lot of white colour, low saturation, which may connote that their music is rather calm alternative rock than something like hard rock. Also bosh site and cover have an old-style look, however font on the web site looks much more up to date, when on the cover it looks like from a typewriter.

Also, video from Nick’s last album looks similar to group’s website. Dark and light colours create calm atmosphere, which links with the type of music, created by them.
