An Evaluation of the survey

My survey consisted of five questions, each asked too fifteen of my peers at school. I found that depending upon what group of people you ask, their tastes seem to be very similar. This is to do with culture and how the media influences their decisions. For example, when asking most people, I found that I knew what sort of answers they were going to give, just through my perceptions of how they dress and act, which in most cases proved to be true.

I also found that a very large amount of people downloaded illegally sourced music. I asked a few general questions about their reasons for the choices they made and most people I asked said that “If I can get music free, then why should I have to pay for it”.

It was also present that not many people actually purchase music magazines; this is to do with the vast source of information provided by the internet. Most things can be sourced within seconds on the internet, at no cost at all, whereas music magazines are quite costly, often over £3/4 which can be a put off to some people.

A plus side to music magazines are that it will often draw a readers eye in from the front cover, inviting them to read about an upcoming band or something along those lines. This helps not only the music magazine industry, but the music scene as a whole.

I think that doing this survey was very helpful, in that it gave me an insight on what magazine style I will base my final project on. I have chosen to go with the music genre of hip-hop / rap.
