THOUGHT BEATS

First Step of Thought Beats

- Listen to the song and take notice to the chorus and verses

Second Step

- Next, focus on the voice of the artist. ( if there is one). The voice is unique to the rest of the band, leading it to be the way people recognize certain bands.

Third Step

- Finally, the lyrics, the story that is being told by the signer. (otherwise known as the “Storytel ler”. The music video wil l aid and anchor the story being told.

NARRATIVE AND PERFORMANCE

- As an audience, we visualise our own narrative and meaning to all songs, even if we only fol low a basic understanding of what the song is actually about

- The music video is incredibly important and must fol low a standard to keep the audience interested and not bored

- Goodwin says the most popular form of narrative today in music video’s is being mimed by the artist/singer. That the actor of the video wil l be performed by the artist, however this is popular, i t must be realist ic otherwise the audience cannot relate to it

STAR IMAGE

- The star image is a massive factor played in music videos

- Each artist wants to be different, stand out and become their own image rather than of others

- This can be done by extremes… (Lady GaGa) and by looking “Indie”

- As the star develops, so wil l the production, music videos more recent wi l l be different to their old ones as they suit the star

VISUALS TO LYRICS

- I l lustrate, Amplify and Disjuncture

- Music videos set images for the songs to i l lustrate the meaning of the lyrics

- Amplify is were the meaning of the song is constantly reinforced

- Disjuncture is when the meaning of the song is completely ignored

TECHNICAL ASPECTS

Sound - Editing – Míse en Scene – Camera Work

- The video wil l fol low the beats of the song, i t wil l cut accordingly to the sound. This wi l l be more entertaining, when it is just a mash-up of video the song, i t is not interesting/entertaining

- The Míse en Scene must be professional, professional looking videos are more appealing to larger audience

- Lighting and colour, these are vital in setting the mood of the video. Dark and grey wil l represent sad/emotional songs where as bright colours might fol low the artists look and be over the top colours

- The Camera work wil l show the artist in what they want to represent. Low angles with long shots of them wil l show power, or quick movement wil l show excitement
