• LEAD2020 is one of New Economy Leadership Institute responses and initiatives in addressing lack of leadership and scarce skills in Africa, We aim to reach, equip and release 20 million marketplace leaders in Africa by 2020 working hand in hand with other Leadership development agencies.

A Brief History of Leadership in Africa

Leaders in the past have generally belonged to one of three categories:

• Political

• Military

• Religious.

• The truth is South Africa and Africa as a whole needs ethical business leaders

• Huge Unemployment crisis, crime, violence, HIV/AIDS, Public Fund mismanagement, Poor decision making in government and no one call them to account etc.

• To provide leadership development and skills development programme in South Africa as we coach, mentor, and train students, workers, professionals, entrepreneurs, potential business men and women to be effective and transformational leaders in the marketplace.

• Advance leadership development in Africa through guidance and support across all sectors of economic participation

• Develop and participate in initiatives that seek to advance the leadership development in Africa.

Strategic Plans and Focus

• Private Sector participating in Leadership Development: Aiming to enhance the participation of private companies in the development of leaders through programmes that support leadership development in the continent.

• Skills Development: This speaks to making sure that the candidates have access to quality and up to date information on career and post - matric educational programmes and institutions.

• Educational Service: This entails to providing all stakeholders with relevant educational services and meaningful information that will make them to also be able to uplift their own communities

• Information Services and Communications: This is aimed at providing information to people about relevant opportunities, career guidance and advisory service. This will also highlight the country`s scarce skills.

• Coaching and Mentoring: The project will develop mentoring and coaching programmes and guidance assistance to our candidates.

• Research, Monitoring and Evaluation: The project aims to embark on relevant research to enhance the development of leadership in the country and to keep up to date with global standards.

Objectives• Provide leadership development to everyone in the continent

that seek to lead in the marketplace

• Support previously disadvantaged learners and members of community who wish to further their studies in business.

• Facilitate relationships with key stakeholders in the private sectors to ensure long-term support and contribution towards the project.

• Ensure that adequate support and quality service is given to our facilitators and candidates as they are an asset in the LEAD2020 project

Challenges• High rate of teenage pregnancy in schools• Increase toll on Violence, Crime and Drugs in schools• Trafficking of women (internal and external)• Increasing rape epidemic• High schools and Universities not meeting demands of learners and students.• Lack of infrastructure, schools and universities to accommodate learners and

students• Changes in Political Leadership and policies• Changes in the education policies and curriculums• Educators not adequately equipped to manage their behaviour and special

needs of learners/students.• Insufficient inter-sectoral networking and collaboration with certain

stakeholders• Lack of support from National Student Financial Aid Support (NSFAS) for

matriculates who do not meet requirements
