Star Wars TrailerThe first scene in the trailer is of the new female hero, the first female main character hero of the franchise. We see a close up of her and from the stitching on her mask we can identify that she has made it herself which immediately shows characteristics of the main characters and her resourceful skills.

We also see her climbing around what seems to be and abandoned spaceship, which clearly shows the genre is sci-fi as spaceships are genre specific elements. We also hear her for the first time and her first words "I'm no one" shows how she doesn't think of herself as someone special, much like Luke Skywalker at the start of the first film before his heroic journey.

Then we see a shot of the stormtropper army and another one of the potential main characters, a young man who is a stromtropper but we can tell from his dialogue that he doesn't agree with is up bringing and purpose and doesn't want to be a stromtropper any more.

From the following scenes we see him crash land on a desert planet when he tried to escape, which shows the ruthlessness of the stormtropper army and elements of an evil empire and dystopian future.

The next shots reinforce this idea as we see what seems to be the evil leader and his speech also shows that he will continue Darth Vader's legacy, and from the close up of him he visually represents the late evil leader.

Half way through the trailer we see Han Solo for the first time and he is telling the new young main characters that the stories they have heard are true, we can also see from Han Solo's face that he has aged which shows that the events took place a long time ago. Han Solo is present in the trailer to excite audiences as he is one of the iconic Star Wars characters and a fan favourite. Next we hear the iconic sound effects of space travel which also shows the codes and conventions of the genre and how the trailer is genre specific.

In the final scenes we see spaceship battles and iconic Star Wars lighsabers and sound effects, this shows how the film has a exciting ending and you have to watch to the end to find out what happens. In addition the genre specific iconography of lasers, spaceships and futuristic weapons show that it is of the sci-fi genre. These scenes are left to the end to as it is the climax and the epic ending is what the audience will remember after watching it.
