Scartho man murders former lover

This story is from Grimsby Telegraph and is about a Scartho man who carried out the "planned and deliberate killing" of his former partner and then tried to create a false alibi for himself. Wai Hong Tsang, 33, of Bluebell Road, denies the murder of Mingzi Yang, 29, on 17 June this year.

We chose this story for our radio as it is very unexpected and this is the kind of news people are interested in hearing as ‘bad news is good news’. The story is very negative and people don’t necessarily like hearing about negative things in their area but it still draws the reader in and they want to read more about it.

We are going to put this story first because in a lot of radio shows they involve a ‘breaking news’ story first to attract the listeners then gradually break the listeners in and put a positive story following.

CRIME Gang of thieves arrested

This story is from the Louth Leader, posted today 4th December 2014 and is BREAKING NEWS. Residents from Louth, Horncastle and Coningsby have been advised check their sheds, garages and vehicles after police arrested four men with a number of stolen items. Four men from Grimsby were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the theft of fuel from two petrol stations in Louth but there were other items in the vehicle which may be connected to a burglary or theft. This is all recent activity and locals need to be aware of the thefts.

Louth Leader is a very community fueled and filled newspaper and focuses mainly on local events, this is what we are hoping to achieve on our radio show, creating a friendly and not too intense atmosphere when it comes to crime.

Flood anniversary: one year on from the towns traumatic tidal surgeThis story is about the anniversary of the floodings that happened in december last year. The floods happened in lincolnshire which is why I have chosen to focus on them as our radio station is based in lincolnshire. the news is still relevant as it shows the way that the people affected have begun to rebuild their lives. Despite the fact that it is a quite depressing story, describing the devastation and the horrible ways that the people were affected, the story has an upbeat message behind it. The story also goes into detail about the ‘community spirit’ and the way that a horrible situation has brought all of the families together.

This relates to our type of radio show as we will be including weather in the news bulletin and as our target audience is 16 year olds and above this type of news story allows listeners to acknowledge what has happened but also to appreciate the positive changes that have happened since. it is also important to include some negative news as it keeps the listener interested and engages their attention.

Will it snow in Lincolnshire? This story is from the Lincolnshire Echo, it is generally about the weather and how we will be expecting a huge wave of colder weather throughout the winter months and that the snow is more likely to fall around the Northern Hills and rural areas. Lincolnshire should be expecting some snow.

This story is very recent as it was posted on 5th December which indicates that it will be happening fairly shortly. It is taking place in the Lincolnshire areas which means it is very local.

This relates to our type of radio show as we will be including weather in the news bulletin and as our target audience is 16 year olds and above this type of news story allows listeners to get excited about Christmas due to the winter weather but also be aware of what will be happening soon. The typical Christmas scenery is a snowy winter wonderland so as the weather forecasts snow soon it suggests that we will experience a typical snowy christmas. We want to include some good news in our broadcast so this type of news story is very exciting for the listeners that enjoy snow and want to expect a typical snowy Christmas.

The representations of this story could change depending on the audience, for example if the audience do not like the winter months then this story could be quite negative for them however, if they prefer the winter months and want a typical cold winter Christmas then this story can be seen as quite positive.

There aren't many news values used in this news story however this is quite an unexpected news story due to the fact the audience may not have been expecting snow.

Meteor shower to be seen over Lincolnshire...

The headline of this story is “Geminids meteor shower will be seen over Lincolnshire”. This story is basically about what the citizens of Lincolnshire are going to be expecting the near future. It is predicted that on the 13th December, Lincolnshire are going to be expecting one of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year.

I have chosen this story because compared to some of our other stories, this one is particularly uplifting and can brighten the mood of the broadcast. This news story is very excited and intriguing for the audience

The news values included in this story are the fact it uses unexpectedness as the citizens of Lincolnshire will not be expecting it at all and it will be a very short story so the listeners won't get bored or distracted.

Salvation Army Carol Service

The headline of this story is ‘Salvation Army Christmas funds. It is always nice to hear about people giving to charitycarol service see civic leaders on east marsh, Grimsby’ this has informed us on the event and main feature being a charity advertisement for the Salvation Army and how they are currently raising especially at christmas time with the Salvation Army because thats what is known for, helping the homeless and less fortunate enjoy the christmas period. What is quite significant about the story is that the council are getting involved with the christmas spirit, because charities rely on donations and do not have funds from the council it is different for them to be donating and quite controversial. The news values for this news story are un expedience but positive.
