Nine frame analysis (Saw)

The scene begins with a man in a strange contraption around his body standing in the middle of a dark room, at this point the viewer is asking questions like whose the man? and what is that thing wrapped around his body?

The man suddenly turns to an old TV with a black and white ventriloquist doll on it, after a few seconds the music begins to rise and the doll begins to speak, it says ‘’Hello Michael, I want to play a game’’

The doll then speaks again but still keeping the same monotone voice as the music continues to increase in pitch calling the man who will be referred to as Michael from now on ‘’an informant, rat a snitch I call you… unworthy of the body you’ve been given’’

In this scene Michael has been informed that the device around his neck is on a spring timer similar to a ‘’Venus fly trap’’ and will kill him if he doesn’t find the key, this with the drone that has been this creates tense atmosphere as Michael struggles to save his life.

The TV then shows a video and the voice explains ‘’ what you are looking at now is your own body not more than two hours ago’’ this again creates more fear

with the audience asking what is happening to michaels body.

In this scene Michael has been informed that the key to being set free is ‘’right in front of your eyes’’ tht coupled with the image of an X-ray of a key within a skull gives the viewer a clear indication of where the key is with the next question being how will he get it out?

After the doll says ‘’How much blood will you shed to stay alive’’ at which point Michael starts to shout at the doll but when he finished his sentance the TV turned to static leaving michael alone and with the looming question will he

survive?

Here Micheal has found a knife and he now must use it to cut his eye open so that he may accuire the key.

This scene shows Michael attempting to get the key from behind his eye with lots of blood and cries of pain from makes for a truly cringe worthy scene for the viewer.
