About the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC)

Mission: We serve the education community by facilitating

the exchange and understanding of student enrollment, performance and related information.

NSC created in 1993 •  501(c)(6) non-profit organization •  Facilitate data exchange amongst postsecondary

education, K-12 education, research and education finance

•  More than 3,500 colleges and universities, enrolling over 98% of all students in public and private U.S. institutions, participate in the Clearinghouse

National Student Clearinghouse Research Center (NSCRC)

Mission: NSCRC is an independent organization that

conducts and supports objective research related to educational enrollment, progression and

completion for the benefit of students, institutions, and the broader public.

NSC Research Center created in 2010 •  501(c)(3) non-profit organization •  Provide research and information for the benefit

of the education community

About Clearinghouse Data

Our Relationship with Participating Institutions: •  Clearinghouse holds the data as agent of the institutions •  Clearinghouse provides valuable services, saving the

institutions money •  Agreements with institutions govern allowable uses of

data

Postsecondary Data Elements Include: •  Enrollment status and dates •  Graduation indicator •  Identifiers for tracking students across institutions •  Most institutions also provide detailed degree data •  Some institutions also provide class level, major, gender

and race
