DESCRIPTION

The 2014 Prevocational Training Programs will familiarize participants with the world of work including job related social skills, interview techniques, job search skills, and resume writing techniques. The residential program is offered at the VISIONS Center on Blindness (VCB), which provides teens with an experience away from home where age appropriate independent functioning is stressed. The non-residential program is offered at VISIONS at Selis Manor in Manhattan to accommodate teens who, for various reasons, are not able to attend the residential program.

The Parent Leadership & Advocacy Program will teach and mentor you about your rights and the rights of your child in the Special Education system, as it pertains to students with visual impairments. Parents will learn what to ask for and how to obtain resources to ensure that their child will receive the early intervention, educational, and rehabilitation services to which their children are entitled.The Parent Leadership & Advocacy Program will we held on March 12 & 13, 2010 at the New York Institute for Special Education in the Bronx.
