¡Bienvenido a Honduras!
A land of beautiful landscapes…
Of rich cultural traditions…
Of friendly and generous people…
But Honduras remains one of the West’s poorest countries.
The average yearly income is $1,845.
In spite of this, we believe that education focused on the
dignity of every human person that will liberate people and
bring opportunities for change.
That is the mission of the
Olancho Aid Foundation.
OAF empowers Honduran youth to transform themselves, their
communities and their country through education.
Welcome to Escuelita Nazareth, the first and only school for
special needs in Olancho.
A non-profit school dedicated to offering education to youth of all
ages with special needs.
These students come from families with no resources to send their children to school.
There is nowhere else in Olancho to provide these
services.
At Escuelita Nazareth we serve deaf students, mentally
handicapped students, students with learning disabilities, and students with Down syndrome
Welcome to Centro Escolar Santa Clara.
We believe that students should be challenged academically and develop intellectual skills that
are both creative and progressive.
Students learn grammar, social studies and religion in Spanish-language classrooms taught by
Honduran teachers.
And learn reading, language arts, science and math in English-
language classrooms taught by North American volunteers.
Students on scholarship study alongside tuition-paying
students.
Come to Santa Clara, and you’ll hear first graders singing “Head,
Shoulders, Knees, Toes”…
You’ll see 4th graders learning how to multiply 2-digit
numbers…
And you’ll hear a spirited discussion of novel in the 7th
grade classroom…
Don’t forget soccer at recess!
Welcome to Cardinal Rodriguez Institute, a private Catholic educational
institution committed to improving the quality of
secondary education for youth in Olancho.
Each year, Santa Clara has added a grade level. This
year, we added 7th grade. The bilingual classes will continue
to be added each year at Cardinal Rodriguez, up to 12th
grade.
The long term goal of Olancho Aid is to prepare those students to study at U.S. universities and
return to Honduras to make positive contributions to their
society.
Moral, civic and spiritual values are emphasized to students to
promote leadership, through the curriculum and in service
projects.
And woven through
all three projects, is the instruction and
example of Catholic values.
We are always looking for volunteers with a variety of
different skills,
from teaching
to fundraising
to software development
and many other areas.
Our volunteers live in community together,
learning about the vibrancy of Honduras together…
And making lasting friendships along the
way…
As they say here,
“Olancho is easy to enter…
…and hard to leave.”
Giving your time, talent, and treasure in volunteer service will change lives
forever.
