THE FAMILY RAIN“ON MY BACK” – MUSIC VIDEO

IDEAS

LOCATION/COLOUR/LIGHTING

Both album print work and other music videos by the band suggest a “vintage” location for the video to be set. The colour schemes are often one of too extremes; dark or bright

I like the idea of the video being set in a pub (As in The Arctic Monkeys’ “Why Do You Only Call Me When You’re High?” video) as it has that Rustic/Vintage feel and it relates to the lyrics, the weight of the world building up on him

“Lay the track, on my back, I just stand here

waiting”

PROPS

The Family Rain often use props that are seen on the cover of their album “Under the Volcano” in their videos. Everything seen is something from their childhood, putting the emphasis on “Family”

Here we see an M18 Smoke Grenade, that is also pictured on the Alternative Cover of the ”Trust Me…I’m A Genius” Single Cover. It is also used in the original music video

A lot of the items on the album cover would not be unfamiliar in a pub setting, and so would be easy to replicate in that environment

COSTUME

The band themselves have developed a very distinct style, going to for vintage style of clothing. The band will feature in the video playing instruments (or people made to look like the band) and they’ll be dressed in a similar manor

As for the main character, he is supposed to be a working man, drowning his sorrows under the pressure of life. For this, he should look like a businessman, but tattered and beat down. Untucked shirts, rough hair, similar to the man in the “Don’t Waste Your Time” Video

COMPOSITION

The band often include close up shots of the main characters in their videos, quite often this is them, but it serves to build a relationship with the audience. I believe this would be key in our music video, as the audience is able to feel the struggle the main character is going
