UNED Abierta (OER Programme)• Created in 2012 in the Vice-rectorate for Continuing Education
and Lifelong Learning• Intends to make visible all the OERs produced at UNED and
promote their creation and use• Management of UNED MOOCs, OpenCourseWare, iTunes U and
access to other open resources at UNED• UNED Abierta is based on openness, equity and quality
education for all• Open and distance education universities’ social mission of
facilitating access to higher education to everyone can be better fulfilled if OERS are a core

UNED MOOCs
• x-MOOCs• Cognitive-behaviorist pedagogy• Rely primarily on information transmission (videos), computer
marked assignments and peer assessment• Each course differs: some are content focused (have more
videos), some are social focused (interaction through debates, social networks), …
• Professors main motivation: explore and experiment diverse pedagogical models
• Run in our own platform• Different certification options

UNED Abierta: lessons learned
• Quality control, beyond quantity (focus in the first stages)• Need for institutional reflection about the role of “open”• Integration into mainstream processes is not fully
addressed• Access to educational content should be available
(MOOCs are not, so the videos are in UNED channel in YouTube)
• Information about students profiles, learning process they follow and opinion about MOOCs are needed

UNED Abierta: future steps
• Integration: new MOOCs related to• continuing education programs (masters)• courses 101, cross-curricular competences• research projects
• Courses with a special innovative approach either in methodology, pedagogical design, social learning, etc.
• Credit recognition in UNED study programs• Promotion of OERs at UNED regular programs: creation,
use, adaptation• Collaboration with researchers at UNED and other
institutions
