Summary of ideas! • The denotation of the genre of my magazine will be pop/chart music. The magazine will be

about pop stars/ bands who’s genre of music is pop and also those who are in the charts of the UK top 40.

• I plan to make my magazine A4 size. The height and width of my magazine will be the same as all publications, height= 28.4cm and width= 21cm.

• The colours will contain utopian, happy or even pastel colours to make the magazine more lively, fun and attract more to the eye. These colours could be: yellows, pinks, purples and blues. I don’t want just one font for my magazine, as different fun and funky and classy fonts will make the magazine easier to read (as it will attract more attention), more fun and definitely more interesting. The fonts that I like are:

I got these fonts from ‘DaFont.com’

These fonts are for the different titles of the magazine. For the articles and interviews etc.. I will use a normal font like Calibri or Book Antiqua or Comic Sans Ms.

Final Masthead Chosen

My final Masthead font chosen is ‘Bubble gum’. I think that this would be most suitable for my front magazine cover as it is most readable. I would going to choose the ‘Cheri’ font, as I like the heart on the tip of the letter ‘I’ but the ‘Bubble gum’ font is in bold, so will stand out more to the readers and is just as fun.

These are the two titles that I'm choosing between for my magazine but in the bubble gum font. I think I will choose the second title as it seems to relate more to music by the word ‘sound’.

Intended Target Audience• The target audience for my magazine will be females around 12+. The

magazine would be aimed at caregivers (Maslow) who are fans of the pop bands or stars, who feel they have an emotional connection to them and want to find out as much as they can about those people.

• The size of my magazine and Top of the Pops will be the same, the magazine will have a similar colour scheme and the type of fonts used will be similar as well (bold, funky, fun, unique). The layout will most likely be similar for my double page spread and a similar style for the front page as I know that these layouts work and are popular, so it would be most useful to choose a layout which is very similar (as in the puffs and pugs as well).

Target audience

• Uses and gratifications (Katz)– Either inform and educate or personal relations

ship. Inform and educate as the reader may learn something new about pop star or band that they didn’t before by reading the magazine. Personal relationship because by reading the magazine, you can build an admiration for a certain star or band.

Target audience

• Maslow’s hierarchy of needs– Either social climbers or care givers. Social

climbers because girls will feel that if they know more about certain stars or bands they are more privileged than others who may not know as much. Care givers because girls may feel engaged with and/or sympathetic towards a star or band.

Psychographics The audience for my magazine will be aspirers because young girls are interested in who’s most interested in who’s most popular and who isn’t, image appearance and fashion. This is why I will focus more no colour and puffs to make my magazine appeal more to the target audience.

Mood board 1

Mood Board 2

Mood Board - Conclusions• I will use a mixture of both mood boards: the bright colors

from the second mood board; the bubble shape for puffs from the first mood board; the stars and zig zags and hearts again for puffs from both mood boards along with all the nail art ideas from both mood boards. The bubble shapes are simple and fun, the stars and zig zags make important things like free posters stand out more on the page and are more funky but the hearts are more sweet than funky as some girls are more bold personalities and other girls can be more sweet and elegant. The nails ideas will be suitable because most girls do typically love painting nails and especially new nail art ideas to have fun and experiment with as well, as it can help to build their identity and express themselves as a person by how they see themselves.

What will be similar for my magazine compared with Top of the Pops

Conclusion of similarities

• I intend to make the mast head of my magazine in the same place because in that specific place on my magazine page I know that the masthead will stand out.

• I also intend to make the barcode in the same place as top of the pops because on their front cover they haven’t made the barcode seem very important as it is small and in the corner so I feel I should do the same.

• My main image will be in a similar place on my front cover so that the most focus on the front cover will be the main image, therefore the picture should be touching the title and be in the middle of the page.

• The main headline will be in a different place and style on my front cover instead of in a bubble so that it could be more eye catching for my target readers.

Text boxes the same.

What will be similar for my magazine compared with Top of the Pops

Conclusion of similarities

• I am going to keep the heading the same because it is at the top of the page, eye-catching and it will make the title seem more important as it is at the top.

• The image layout and text boxes will be in a similar place as it looks more professional and text boxes are more appealing to the eye rather than large chunks of text.

Conclusion

• I think I will use the brighter colour scheme from mood board 2 to make the pages and information stand out more (which will be more suitable then pastel colours which don’t stand out as much) but use pugs from both mood boards/ mind maps to create more fun and variety on the front cover or double page spread. The layout will be quite similar to my magazine of inspiration as I know that that layout works and is popular, so by using a similar layout I know that my magazine will have a greater chance of selling.
