How much do your children use tech at home?
How much do you know about what technology your child uses?
How do you find a balance between tech use for literacy/learning and tech use for entertainment?
Do you have a Tech plan for your home use?

What does the research
recommend to stay in balance?
A recent study published by the American Pediatrics Association provides the following guidelines:
18-24 months: parents should watch and play with children if using a screen; Online Video chat with family is great!
2-5yrs old: one-hour; parents keep participating; “high-quality programming,” only (Ex.PBS Kids and Sesame Workshop)
6yrs old+ :balance= 1hr physical activity + unplugged family time + unstructured play time +8-12 hours of sleep (depending on age) + screen time
“Parent awareness is the most important to develop a plan for media/tech use at home”
Guidelines for 6yrs old+
Avoid screens 1hr before bed
No devices in bedroom overnight
Discourage social media/entertainment during homework: multitasking interferes with learning
Designate unplugged family time
Talk to your kids about online bullying and privacy
Ask them what they are watching and playing; have them teach you
