Classes  for  Part-­‐1me  Students  Accommodate  Full-­‐1me  Work  •  Evening  classes  meet  once  a  week,  Monday  -­‐  Thursday  

–  5:30  –  8:20  pm  (Fall  and  Spring)  –  5:30  –  8:50pm  (Summer)  –  Saturday  review  sessions  (opGonal)

What  is  a  Unit?  

•  Carnegie  Mellon  uses  Units  instead  of  Credits  •  A  12-­‐unit  class  at  CMU  =  3  or  4  credit  class      

–  Full-­‐semester  class:  12  units  –  Half-­‐semester  class:    6  units  

•  MPM  and  MSIT  each  require  144  total  units  •  HRM  CerGficate  requires  72  units  of  coursework

How  much  1me  will  it  take?  •  Each  class  requires  average  of  12  hours  of  work  per  week  (includes  lecture)  

•  Degrees  may  be  completed  in  2  years  of  part-­‐Gme  study  (24  units  per  term)  

•  You  have  up  to  5  years  to  complete  degree  –  Allows  varying  pace  of  study  –  Allows  for  Gme  off  if  needed

MSIT  Program  Highlights:  Ø  Applicants must have 3+ yrs IT work experience; most have 5-10 yrs

•  Software mgmt tracks have additional programming/software development experience as prerequisites to apply

Ø  Choose Evening or Distance mode during application •  Hybrid – we’ll work with you during enrollment to accommodate

Ø  How does Distance work? •  Asynchronous - usually not online at same time, anytime/anywhere •  Campus lecture capture technology – package on multimedia DVD or

stream online for on-demand viewing •  Use Blackboard as virtual classroom space, communication •  Instructors usually same on campus and distance; some classes

where distance instructor uses lectures by different campus instructor •  Expect to do same kinds of work/assessments as on campus
