12. QuoteA modern school needs to be a lot more thanbrick and
mortar of studies. The uniqueadvantage of being source of education
isgone. Quality or Quantity of educationalcontent can no longer be
benchmark of qualityof education for a school; high
qualityeducational content everywhere on theInternet. For example
its no more the responsibility ofschool to make a student memorize
birthdayof Martin Luther King. This information iseverywhere on the
Internet. A student can getthis information using Google on
smartphonein a matter of a seconds. The role of teacherscomes into
play when there is something thata student cant find and understand
usingmobile device in less than 2 minutes. Thus, the role of school
has shifted from beingthe source of knowledge to the validator
&applier of knowledge.Journalist Pulkit for the onlineeducation
news agency Edudemicwrites:

22. Set GoalsIf you are looking to get started with twitter or
evenanother social platform, just know that it takes TIME.For it to
be the most effective it really should become partof your routine
or habit. For instance, every Monday night there is a #LuthEDtwitter
chat. This has been built into my routine.Sometimes I just follow
along and look at what peoplehave posted and sometimes I
participate.Baby steps. This will not happen overnight.
23. PrivacyPrivacy is something we can control.Talk with your
administrator!Never release student names.Double check privacy
settings every 6 months incaseprivacy policies have changed.Make
sure you have photo release documents on file foreach student.
24. Next StepsThe best place to start with social media, is
getting comfortable with it. Tryit! This can take some time so take
it a little bit at a time!It took me a year to get comfortable with
twitter!
