Structure of Persuasive Text

Structure of a Persuasive Text• Structure: identifying key features of the text structure:• first paragraph: introduction — draw the reader in with an interesting opening sentence;

state the thesis of your argument. This is the most important sentence in your argument. It brings focus to the argument; informs the reader of the main topic of your argument; is a claim that has to be proven throughout.

• second paragraph: body — make your first point (to support the thesis), using evidence to support your position.

• third paragraph: body — make your second point, using evidence to support your position.• fourth paragraph: body — make your third point, using evidence to support your position.• Note: each of these body paragraphs should contain one point and be backed up by evidence.• fifth paragraph: conclusion — summarise your argument, tying together your ideas and

points (don’t repeat them), restate your thesis; show some personal insight; leave the reader with something to think about.
