Kim decided to join The Productives e-learning focus group to see if e-learning was the answer. Kim said: The value of the training achieved through undergoing the Productive programmes cannot be underestimated. For this reason we were looking for an adjunct to the training we had already done and something that would complement the programme of continuous improvement. We had also noticed a lot of change at service level; therefore it was important to develop some readily accessible refresher training that kept the quality of training at the same standard. The e-learning modules certainly fulfil these criteria and reinforce the work already done in our development sessions. I am aware there is a difficulty with the whole notion of e-learning within the NHS, as many NHS statutory and mandatory training sessions are carried out using a traditional tick box approach. This has undoubtedly given e-learning a bad press in the past. The content of the Productives e-learning modules is very different. They are refreshingly interactive and involve much more thinking about processes, how to develop yourself, and your approach to work. I personally found the e-learning modules simple to use, easy to follow and with attractive visuals. They are good to dip in and out of, and stop and start. In clinical areas it is difficult to protect time for learning, therefore the short 15 minutes that each of the module lessons approximately last for are perfect for this environment. In addition, because the Productives is part of a continuous improvement programme, the e-learning is an ideal and flexible way to keep people on track and maintain motivation levels.

Productives e-learning in action

Kim BennettProductive Programmes Lead for Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust

Having implemented the roll out of The Productive Mental Health Ward programme over the last three years, and Productive Community Services since October 2011, Kim Bennett, Lead for the Productive Programmes at Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, needed a strategy for sustaining the Productives work already done. Kim decided to join The Productives e-learning focus group to see if e-learning was the answer.

I am aware there is a difficulty with the whole notion of e-learning within the NHS, as many NHS statutory and mandatory training sessions are carried out using

a traditional tick box approach.

In addition, because the

Productives is part of a continuous improvement programme, the e-learning is an ideal and flexible way to keep people on track and maintain motivation levels.
