• It is a chemical process by which plants prepare
carbohydrate food, with the help of carbon-dioxide , water
and minerals in presence of sunlight and chlorophyll.
• Carbon- dioxide + water Glucose +
oxygen
chemical equation:
• 6CO2 + 6H20 C6H12O6 + 6O2
Sunlight &
chlorophyll
Sunlight &
chlorophyll
• Water
• Carbon–dioxide
• Light
• Chlorophyll
• Minerals
• The absence of sunlight due to aluminum foil stops the
plant from preparing starch, which proves that plant
needs sunlight to make starch.
• Nitrogen is needed for development of leaves, deficiency
of nitrogen turns the leaves yellow and reduces the
growth of plant. It is also needed for the synthesis of
green pigment chlorophyll and proteins.
• Phosphorous is required for the development of roots
and for respiration. Phosphates are required to prepare
food by process of photosynthesis. Deficiency leads to
poor growth of plant.
• Potassium is needed for development of flowers and
fruits, it helps to make chlorophyll and proteins.
Deficiency of potassium turns the leaves yellow and
abnormal growth.
