POLYSTYRENE
INTRODUCTION
Polystyrene is a vinyl polymer.
It has along hydrocarbon chain with a phenyl
group attached to every other carbon atom.
Produced by free radical vinyl polymerization,
from the monomer styrene.
Thermoplastic material
Amorphous polymer
RHEOLOGICAL BEHAVIOUR
Non-Newtonion fluid with viscoelastic properties.
The viscosity of polystyrene melts or solutions
is defined as the ratio of shear stress to shear
rate.
Electrical properties: Very good electrical
insulators
Mechanical properties: low impact strength
Thermal properties: Tg of unmodified 373K
between 90-110°C
Optical properties: naturally white
Low toxic product
