Step ONE: YOUR ATTITUDE Step TWO: Class DiscussionStep THREE Written FeedbackStep FOUR : Response to Feedback
Step FIVE: Pupils Set Goals Step SIX : Dialogues
Students need feedback to learn and get better at what they are doing – learning.
By asking students to evaluate their own learning you are teaching them to take responsibility for the process of learning.
There are many ways to get feedback from students on where they are and if they are satisfied with where they are.
Instant feedback – Orally - by asking questions , a show of hands..
Written feedback pages – either formative/ summative
Reflection journalsDialogue journalsFace to face mini-talksFace to face meetings
Use FEEDBACK pages to get the kids to stop and think where they are, and why they are there.
This type of feedback should be done during a lesson , right after a unit or at the end of the semester to find out what is going on and be able to make a change .
.
There are other forms of feedback which are summative . These can be used at the end of the semester. They should allow the kids to relate to the teacher, the class , the material taught and himself as a learner.
Step 1: ECHO Listen to the person talking When s/he finishes, repeat what s/he has said. TRY to use almost the exact words.
Step 2: CONFIRM Repeat in YOUR own words. Confirm that this is correct.
Step 3. EMPATHIZE . Be open to what you have heard . By showing empathy you let the person know you really hear him or her.
Step 4. GET A REQUEST Ask the person what s/he wants from you or what s/he wants from himself. Repeat the request to make sure you have understood. Suggest what you feel you can do. Ask him/her if this is ok.
A higher level of critical thinking occurs when one is aware of one's thought processes.
“A school is not a factory. Its raison d'être is to provide opportunity for experience. “ James Lloyd Carr
Let’s give them the experience to grow .. And we can do this by encouraging them to think about what they do (which is to reflect) in order to progress, to learn and to develop as better learners. !!
