Practical (P5) (P6) (P5/D2)By Andrew Williams
+Introduction
This PowerPoint will display my installation, updating and testing of a Wireless NIC, below is my picture of my team who aided this practical task.
+1st Step – H&S
Firstly, for H&S Purposes we set up our anti-static gear to prepare for operating on the computer
+2nd Step – Manual Install
After laying down and equipping anti-static gear, we then started to manually install the wireless NIC
+3rd Step – Install Comfirmation
After that, we then made sure it will installed by checking under network devices (start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers > Network Devices (CISCOLAB-02) > Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter
+4th Step – Update Scan
After checking the Wireless NIC was installed, we then started to run a scan for updated driver software.
+5th Step – It’s all up to date
After a brief period of time, the scan we done but it stated that the best driver software for your device was already installed.
+6th Step – Internet Connection
After installation the NIC and performing a driver update scan, we needed to actually make sure it worked. Firstly, it didn’t work but we had forgot to connect it to the internet.
+7th Step – Command Prompt
Now it was connected, we tried again to see if it was connected but this time we used the command prompt
+Final Step – Ping’ It Used the command prompt (CMD), we ‘pinged’ a
website’. What this did was checked to see if there was connection between that website and the device by sending out a ‘ping’ and hopefully receiving a result, which is what happened!
+How it helped?
The computer we operated on was connected via Ethernet cable (Wired) With the installation of a Wireless NIC and connecting to a network (LTA-Public) via wireless communication, it can now connect to the internet wirelessly. This means if either connection method went down for some reason, the other network would hopefully still work.
