Who are we?

Rob Prior

I am primary trained Teacher, who taught for four years at Two Mile Hill Primary School. For three of those years, I was ICT/Computing Subject Lead. From September I have been an Education Consultant for Soft Egg.

Soft Egg work with over 350 UK schools providing school IT support services which include remote desktop support, on-site engineers, school broadband, wifi solutions, IT suites, e-safety and cloud data backup.

Discuss your answers to the following questions:

Q1. What does the computing curriculum look like at the moment in your school?

Q2. What do you plan to change over the next year?

Q3. What resources could you do with?

Specialist Vocabulary

Other Ideas:

★ Spend a staff meeting de-mystifying the vocabulary, by exploring each word and creating a whole school display.

★ Use a group of children, such as your digital leaders, to make short videos explaining the words.

★ Create a cheat sheet that your staff can refer to using the new BBC Site (http://bbc.in/1rWHjr4)

★ Scrap all vocabulary for a year and come back to it later.

Choosing Devices and Software“select, use and combine a variety of software (including internet services) on a range of digital

devices to design and create a range of programs, systems and content that accomplish given goals, including collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information”

This is a great opportunity to go to your Head Teacher and Business Manager and demand new software and new hardware.

How to decide?Decide what learning you want to do and then choose a device that does what you need it to.
