UNIT 1: SAMS WORLD

INTRODUCTION: This didactic unit has been elaborated to introduce the contents of this topic and to teach the students the four skills by means of everyday communicative situations.

TIMING: six sessions of one hour. This didactic unit is carried out in the first term before Christmas.

CENTRE OF INTEREST: personal information.

OBJECTIVES: 1. To learn the form and use of the verb to be.To learn the form and use of the indefinite article: a, an.

To learn the numbers in English.

4. To learn the times in English. 5. To practise the vocabulary of school subjects, cities, days of the week, months and numbers. 6. To do a roleplay exchanging personal information.KEY COMPETENCES: Linguistic Competence because this unit deals with the learning of vocabulary and the structures of the English Language; Mathematical Competence because this unit deals with numbers and mathematical expressions; Digital Competence and the Treatment of Information because this unit deals with the information and comunication technologies and Competence on Learning to Learn and on Autonomy and Personal Initiative Competence because the students are stimulated to establish strategies, for example, when learning numbers and also this unit deals with the creativity in relation to the flexibility when the students make their personal information card.CONTENTS:Listening, speaking and talking: students listen to different texts of the unit as well

as to a song related to the vocabulary and grammatical structures of the unit; students roleplay a dialogue exchanging personal information; oral greetings and introductions.Reading and writing: students have to predict the vocabulary from the activities

carried out in class; students write an e-mail talking about personal information to a penpal; students write their own timetable.Language awareness: students have to revise the affirmative, negative and

interrogative forms of the verb to be; students will learn the form and uses of the indefinite article; new vocabulary about school subjects, colours, cities, countries, nationalities, days of the week and months will be developed in class. VALUE CONTENTS: Education for Equal Opportunities between the sexes and Sociocivic Education.INTERDISCIPLINARITY:

Castilian Language, French Language and Maths.

PUNCTUATION

Students will be punctuated from one to ten for every activity done in class. They are also going to do an exam at the end of the term. Pupils who get a 50% of the total punctuation pass their exams.

EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Students will have to produce oral and written messages using personal information; students have to use strategies to be able to carry out classroom interaction; the students have to develop strategies to tell the time; students have to write an e-mail in a controlled way; students have to identify different strategies in searching information over the Internet; students can use to new content with relative ease; students have to show interest and initiative for understanding information in English.
