COVALENT COMPOUND

A covalent bond is a chemical bond that involves the sharing of electron pairs between atoms. The stable balance of attractive and repulsive forces between atoms when they share electrons is known as covalent bonding. For many molecules, the sharing of electrons allows each atom to attain the equivalent of a full outer shell, corresponding to a stable electronic configuration.Covalent bonding includes many kinds of interactions, including σ-bonding, π-bonding.

Covalency is greatest between atoms of similar electronegativities. Thus, covalent bonding does not necessarily require that the two atoms be of the same elements, only that they be of comparable electronegativity. Covalent bonding that entails sharing of electrons over more than two atoms is said to be delocalized.

PROPERTIES OF COVALENT COMPOUND

Covalent compounds have the following properties: Covalent compounds generally have much lower

melting and boiling points than ionic compounds.

Covalent compounds are soft and squishy (compared to ionic compounds, anyway).

Covalent compounds tend to be more flammable than ionic compounds.

4) Covalent compounds don't conduct electricity in water.

5) Covalent compounds aren't usually very soluble in water.

Uses of covalent compounds in day to day life.?

There infinite uses of covalent compounds.some important uses are- your existence(covalent compounds form 99% of your body) water is a covalent compound.we all know many uses of water. sugars, food substances, tea and coffee are all covalent compounds. the air we breathe in contains covalent molecules of oxygen and nitrogen. almost everything on earth other than most simple inorganic salts are covalent
