EN-CRIS

Goals

1. Define the regulatory framework to adopt2. Coordinate FCT’s systems integration in

accordance with the regulatory framework3. Coordinate external systems integration with

FCT (National and International) according to the regulatory framework

4. Support and disclose within the community the use of the PT-CRIS systems.

Page 33: Pt cris-casrai-rome-16-may-2014-v1

CRIS-PT

Strategy - Principles

• Services can be provided centrally or using a decentralized system.

• Existing services will be used wherever possible. If necessary, these services will be expanded in order to provide a national service.

• The services are easy, intuitive, efficient and effective to use.

• Only services which meet the needs of education and research will be implemented.

• The shared services will enable cost optimization.

Page 34: Pt cris-casrai-rome-16-may-2014-v1

CRIS-PT

Strategy - Principles

• The sustainability of the services is of vital importance.• The entire life cycle of scientific information will be

covered by the services available.• The legal constraints will be observed. When the appropriate

bases are missing, the program must initiate their creation.

• The services are guided by national and international standards and best practices.

• There is central governance with clearly defined interfaces and standards.

• The services will be made available through defined interfaces and standards in order that they can be used autonomously by the organizations.

EN-CRIS

Conclusions

PT-CRIS is key stone for science and technology management because:– Aims to integrate the constituent systems

creating a open ecosystem, from which all stakeholders can easily benefit from and contribute to, bringing advantages to all.

– Aims to place Portugal in frontline countries with CRIS more developed and aligned with standards and best practices

Page 41: Pt cris-casrai-rome-16-may-2014-v1

EN-CRIS

Conclusions

PT-CRIS will promote excellence of science in Portugal, by giving greater visibility for all national and international, stakeholders, facilitating management and production of science and innovation processes, through easier access to authoritative, complete and reliable information .

PT-CRIS

Discussion / cooperation! (1/3)

• Organizations– Is the adoption of standards for Organizations

management enough?– Need for clear governance (registry/registrar)?– Need for information systems (ex: names)?– Are ISNI and Ringhold services mature?

Page 51: Pt cris-casrai-rome-16-may-2014-v1

PT-CRIS

Discussion / cooperation! (2/3)

• Normalized database– CERIF + CASRAI + ORCID + VIVO: when?– Are there APIs available for handling CASRAI

“items” materialized in a CERIF DB?– Are there plans to validate CERIF / CASRAI

XML?

Page 52: Pt cris-casrai-rome-16-may-2014-v1

PT-CRIS

Discussion / cooperation! (3/3)

• Scientific equipment– Prospective studies are under way.– The number of research infrastructures is small

when compared to orgs or researchers– Should the system be local / national or should

it be international and follow a decentralized approach?

Page 53: Pt cris-casrai-rome-16-may-2014-v1
