Panasonic Video Camera The video camera was relatively easy to use so we all

learnt how to use the basics quickly which meant that the shooting went smoothly in terms of camera use.

This was the first time I had ever used a video camera so it was a good experience and helped by how easy the camera was to use.

It was also a good choice of camera when uploading footage, compared to the Sanyo cameras, as the settings on the camera meant that the footage could go straight into final cut.

Using a digital video camera has proved very easy and how technology can speed up things like filming. If we had been using manual video cameras tasks like changing the film magazines and re-shoots would have taken a lot longer.

Final Cut Pro Final Cut Pro was a completely new program to me except

for the limited time I spent on it when doing the preliminary task.

When it came to the editing process of the film making I had to learn quite quickly how to use the program. This took longer than learning how to use the camera as Final Cut has a lot of complex tools that you need to know what they do if you want to achieve a high quality film. However after watching a member of my team who was already knowledgeable about the program I caught on and was able to contribute to the editing.

This is another way that technology makes film making easier. The editing stage is all done digitally so the clips can be moved around, replaced and cut easily. With analogue we would have had to manually cut and stick bits together and if it turned out wrong it would have had to be redone.

Livetype This was another new program to me and this time I hadn't

had any practice before the production stage. At first I didn’t get on well with this program at all and I

had trouble with some of the tools but eventually I was able to put together an ident on livetype with only some problems along the way.

We also made the credits on livetype but we did encounter few big problems when doing this so Using this program was a big learning curve for all of us.

To do credits in analogue would have taken a lot more equipment and the process seems a lot more complex.

Soundtrack Pro

I had used soundtrack pro when doing the preliminary task but only for a short amount of time and I didn’t really understand it at that point.

I learned how to use some of the tools on it while looking for a soundtrack for our film opening but in the end we took the soundtracks from a website so the program wasn’t as useful as we had hoped it would be. Even so it gave us another option when choosing a soundtrack.

If we had been successful in finding a track on this program then it would have been useful and would have saved us from creating the soundtrack ourselves using instruments, which is how it would have been done without digital technology.

Photoshop

This program I had used before and had some experience in from previous projects.

We used this when making the idents for creating the images to go into the idents on livetype. Although I had already used this program I did learn a new skill during this project of how to remove backgrounds from the image you want and how to transfer it to livetype. This program was useful in the developing stage of the idents.

Without this program we would have had to create the image and put the ident together by hand, this program made it quick and easy once I had learned how to do it.

Conclusion

Overall during the making of this project I was introduced to a lot of new technologies and programs as well as learning new skills on the programs I had experience on.

All the programs and technologies made the film making process relatively easy and could be done quickly with practise on the programs.
