Question 7Claudia Miguel

Management of equipmentManagement of the green-room and the equipment which was needed for the photoshoot was a key area of management. I needed to book both a DSLR camera and the room prior to the photoshoot in order to use these pieces of equipment. Booking them in advance meant that I was able to have them for when I wanted and when there was a available slot in the green-room. I would then inform my model of this available slot and ensure that she was prepared for the shoot.

I also had to manage the lighting in the green room to make sure that my model was lit up in the way that I wanted, to ensure that all her facial features and expressions were caught by the camera.I also had to manage the tripod, making sure that the whole of my models body was caught by the camera and that these shoot were the ones that I wanted.

Management of human resources

Management of human resources was also a key part to management, this is because I had to manage people within products, these being the models. This is so that I had the models at the same time as when the camera and green-room was booked. I asked the model what time would best suite them, and from there we booked the green-room and camera when it was best for use all and the camera and green-room were available.

In addition, I had to also manage the styling, costume and props used and worn by my models. This gave me full control over them and they way that they were presented. This meant that I was able to style my models to fir the genre of my magazine – R&N.For the preliminary task, I did not manage my models to the extent that I did in my music magazine shoot. I just took photos om n my iPhone. These were images taken around the college.

An image of one of my models, fully

styled to the genre of, my magazine.

Question 7Claudia Miguel

Management of time I had to manage my time, a lot throughout the main task, much more so than the time management in the preliminary task. To a more efficient standard so that work was done and that I would not fall behind. The main reason behind this is because the main task had a lot more elements to it when compared to the preliminary task. The main task involved the following:• Genre• Styling• Props• Lighting• Background • Colour scheme and • Composition of my model

I believe that my time management was successful as I had all my images taken and chose efficiently and quickly. In addition to this I finished my magazine on the deadline and did not fall behind.

Question 7Claudia Miguel

Front Cover – Preliminary TaskThe colour scheme that I used was purple, yellow and white. I decided to use these as these are colours that are colours associated with Christ the King, especially purple and as this is a college magazine, it makes sense. I chose yellow as it stands out on the contrasting background. I also used yellow as it a colour that is easily read on top of other colours. Purple was used for cover-lines to standout to the audience and essentially attract the audience.

I chose to take the image in a corridor within my college. This is because I wanted to incorporate school life into the issue. My model is holding a book, which reinforces the idea of school life.

I chose to give my mast head ‘College

Life’ a show drop, to stand out from the

background. This will also grab the

attention of the reader and lure them

into reading further into my magazine

and buying it.I also gave my

magazine a puff, but unlike must circular

puff, mine was in the shape a square that

has been flattened on the sides. This shows that the magazine is less formal to other magazines and will

attract its target audience of college

students.

Question 7Claudia Miguel

Contents Page– Preliminary Task

I have carried on using the same colour scheme on front cover to show professionalism, this has been used in the font on the contents page and the masthead – showing continuity. I have specifically used purple as it is a colour that goes well with yellow and is again associated with Christ the King.

I have chosen to add a small screenshot of the front cover on the contents page, which follows the conventions of some real magazine. This shows professionalism.

I have added a purple box behind the numbers, this is so that the page numbers can be easily read. This is because both purple and yellow compliment each other.

I decided to ask two

students in my college to act

as if they were ready a book, whilst holding a door open. I

chose to do this so that the

environment was clear, and

that it was obvious that

they were in a college.

I chose to add the ‘Christ the King’ logo in the top right hand corner of the contents page to show

that it is a college magazine and continuity as this had been used on the front cover page too.

Question 7Claudia Miguel

Front Cover– Main TaskI have chosen the following colours for my magazines colour scheme: red, white, black and grey. This is because I feel that these colours closely represent R&B and the sub culture, and by doing this is attracting both genders.I chose to have my model holding the microphone near her mount, as this is a composition that us usually associated with rap and R&B singers. Therefore showing the theme of my music magazine.

I chose to under line each of the cover-line to make it standout to the audience as they pass it in the shop. This will attract them to the magazine, as the underlines are used under a famous R&B singer/song writer.

I decided to use a white background,

so that the attention was not taken away

from the model, cover-lines and the

mastheadI decided to stick to

using only three cover-lines, because the idea that less is more cam to mind,

and looking at other R&B front covers

such as vibe, they stick to minimal on the cover and keep

the attention on the main image.

I chose to have the main cover-line in

the centre and also in a different font,

this is so that it was eye catching as it differed from the

rest of the text on the page.

Question 7Claudia Miguel

Contents Page – Main TaskI have carried on using the same colour scheme on front cover to show professionalism, which are the colours red, white, black and grey.I have decided to layout my contents page by using red coloured boxes. This layout is similar to ones of real music magazines. I have chosen this because it is organised so that it is easy for the reader to read it and so that they know exactly what they are looking at.

I decided to place the title on the top left

hand corner, oppose to the right hand corner. This is because it can be more clearly read, plus as it is on a red

background.My masthead has

been condensed done to the U of ‘Unleashed’

and again position on top of a red box, this is

so it stand out to the audience and can

again, be clearly read. This has been done so that the audience can clearly identify which of the two is the title

and which of the two is the masthead.

Double Page Spread– Main Task

I got the idea and inspiration for my model to be clothing in he clothes

that she is wearing and using both ‘Beats’ and microphone as props as I

had seen something similar to this on Google, which made me want to try this out. These props were all found in my models home and brought to

the green-room.

I got the idea for the title of my DPS to be at the bottom of the page, and laid out like the way it has been, from an example of a DPS of a music magazine which I looked online for.I decided to go for this layout, as it attracted my attention the first time I saw it when I was browsing on the net. Therefore I believed that this would have the same effect on my target audience, which would make it a good idea to use it.

Audience feedback also suggest that this was a good idea and layout to of used, as the confirmed that they liked

it.

At first I was just trying out a

few different compositions to

see what the final image

would look like. After this I re-

booked the green-room for

the second time to take the final

images after I had drawn up a

photoshoot plan. This then

helped me manage

everything better.

Problem Solving Decisions

Question 7Claudia Miguel

Page 12: Question 7 - Claudia Miguel

Question 7Claudia Miguel

One problem here is the lighting. These sets of photos were taken in the models toilet, meaning that the lighting was minimal. To get more brightness in the room, the blind was lifted and the lights were switched on. From switching on the lights, it created a small reflection.

This image would then have a mask on top of it, to erase both the reflection and background.

The models skin is both quite light and

fair. This means that the skin tone to her hands and the wall

were of a similar shade. This was

then a challenge to cut out from, when

using Photoshop, without cutting out

her hand.

This was the resolved, by

duplicating the image in Photoshop and focusing on her hands in one of the

images, and the rest of her body, in the

other one. There two layers would have then been merged

and the problem would have been

sorted.

Importance of drafting

Question 7Claudia Miguel

It was an important factor of the process that I drafted my ideas of what my final product would look like. This allowed me to plan out what I wanted and to not just go into it without have an idea. However, as you will find out I did not always keep to my drafts at all times, as I found out that the plan did not work as well as I had expected it to.

Question 7Claudia Miguel

Front Cover –Draft

From the draft, to the final product, the two are very similar with only slight changes. The direction in which the model is changes has differed from the draft so has the use of a puff, and the proxemics between the cover-line on the front cover. I did not use a puff as it did not work, nor was there a perfect place to have it positioned there, so I decided not to add it. The same applied for the face and angle. With the model looking straight it did not feel as though the magazine was R&B so I asked the model to change it.

Page 15: Question 7 - Claudia Miguel

Question 7Claudia Miguel

Contents Page–Draft

From the draft, to the final product, the two are very similar, and in fact almost identical. There are only a few tweaks that I decide to make as it did not fit, nor look right if they were added. This is the image s under the ‘Features’, ‘Music’ and ‘Editors Note’ sections. I believe that these look more professional without the images and more of a highquality standard, which will attract the audience.

Page 16: Question 7 - Claudia Miguel

Question 7Claudia Miguel

Double Page Spread–Draft

From the draft, to the final product, there is nothing the same. Nothing that I had planed on the draft, other than the issue label which are both positioned on the top left-hand corner, nothing is the same. I found that this would have made may magazine word heavy, and possibly made my target audience not want to purchase this magazine. Also the images that I took did not fit along the top as I intended then too, so I chose toadopt a different layout.
