• The Canary Islands lie off the southwest coast of Spain. Though Spanish has become the official language of the island, still some people on the island of La Gomera still use Silbo Gomero, an ancient language that’s “spoken” through an interesting method which is helpful in long distance communications over the hills. With only four vowels and four consonants, the key to understanding Silbo is understanding the nuances and meanings of the method implied.

• According to researchers, Silbo was most likely first used as an emergency signal, but over time, it developed into a full language. Unfortunately the language has nearly come to a decline since it requires the speakers to have a special skill to communicate.

Soon after the Partition he came to Delhi and then to Bombay (now Mumbai). It was Dr. BR Chopra who had noticed his talent when he was a film journalist and critic, who urged him to carry on with his acting career.

• Smoot is a nonstandard unit of length created as part of an MIT fraternity prank. It is named after Oliver R. Smoot, a fraternity pledge to Lambda Chi Alpha.

• The unit have become very well accepted by the public, to the degree that the Harvard Bridge (between Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts) implemented this marking scheme to measure its length. People walking across the bridge today can see painted markings indicating how many smoots there are from where the sidewalk begins on the Boston river bank.

• Google Calculator also incorporates smoots, which it reckons at exactly 67 inches.

One smoot is equal to Oliver Smoot's height at the time of the prank, 5 feet 7 inches (1.70 m).

To implement his use as a unit of measure, Oliver Smoot repeatedly lay down on the bridge, let his companions mark his new position in chalk or paint, and then got up again. Eventually, he got tired from all this exercise and was carried thereafter by the fraternity brothers to each new position.

• X is a fundraising campaign thrown by the nonprofit organization Comic Relief.

• This campaign is dedicated to raising money for children and young people living in poverty by simply having fun and making people laugh. The inaugural was held in the US on May 21st, 2015.
