FORM OF TREE NUT

Straight slender rods, can reach a height of 25 m in diameter ca. 15 cm, although some are larger. Canopy is not dense.

Midrib leaf-shaped tube with a length of 80 cm, petiole short; leaf blade length to 80 cm, young leaves of 85 x 5 cm, with torn and jagged edge.

Cob flowers with sheath (spatha) long and easy to fall out, appears in the bottom leaf, approximately 75 cm long, with short stems branched double, until the end of the long axis of 35 cm, with 1 female flower at the base, topped with lots of male flowers arranged in 2 lines embedded in the groove. Male flowers 4 mm long, white, yellow, stamens 6. Female flowers approximately 1.5 cm long, green; will bear fruit one.

ARECA NUT

Fruit Buni inverted elongate ovoid, orange red, length 3.5 to 7 cm, with a fibrous fruit wall. An egg-shaped seeds, and have a picture like nets. In Java, areca nut grows to a height of 1400 m above sea level.

The roots of areca nut type Itam, in the past used as poisoners to get rid of an enemy or someone who does not like. Midrib leaf-like tubes (known as upih) used for packaging and food cakes. Umbutnya contrived eaten as fresh vegetables or pickles.
