Open access refers to the free online access of scholarly information on the internet. This can be achieved by

depositing material (within copyright) into an institutional or subject repository, and/or publishing in an open access

journal. Much of this scholarship is indexed by Google Scholar, enabling instant, international exposure to research

which benefits readers and authors alike. More information is available from the Library Website.

Gold Open Access – Publications that are published in open access journals or made freely available on the internet.

Some open access journals change article processing fees to cover expenses relating to publication.

Green Open Access – Where publishers allow authors to archive a specified version of their paper in an open

repository following an embargo period post publication.

Hybrid Open Access – When subscription journals charge a fee for an individual article in the journal to be made open

access.

Pre-print – the first version of the article you submit to a journal (pre peer review)

Post-print – the final version of the paper before the publisher’s details are added (peer reviewed)
