Respecting Parents and Elders

The Ten Commandments in the Holy Bible; have an important commandment given by God to every person, which says, “Honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.” In our lives today, we tend to take our parents for granted and tend to misbehave with them. We may do so knowingly or unknowingly, but whatever be the case it is an unacceptable thing to do to our parents and elders.

Parents are the highest authority placed on us in our lives in this earthly world. So if God has placed them as an authority, why is it that children always want to break free from their parents and live a life devoid of their presence? As we grow up, we tend to feel we know more and parents do not understand us or our situation that we are in. But what we forget always is that our parents have gone through the very same phase that we go through, and the difference in the time period has no effect on the experience. It is our perception, how we take things that come our way.

It is indeed a sort of a moral obligation on the part of several people to correct those who are wayward and feel that it is their birth right to scorn, mock and look down upon other people, especially their elders whom they always consider dumb idiots, who keep blabbering pieces of advice and word of caution to anything and everything that they do. The notion of the so called generation X, which thinks it is way to cool for its existence must be reprimanded before it’s too late to turn back their foot from the pit they are driving themselves into.

The only way that I see out of this problem is to make these youngsters take up roles of their parents and elders and go through the day to day stress level at works, managing to save every single penny they can for their family and many more such things because of which their children feel that their parents are insensitive and don’t want to give them whatever they want. Role playing games have definitely helped several youngsters to realise that being a parent is not an easy job and that what a fool they make of themselves by stepping into their parents shoes and committing mistakes every day, something that they have seen their parents carry it out as a cake walk and they find themselves troubled with.
