Cases

I am pleased to announce that we have received over 70 case submissions through our annual case writing competition.

We had several strong case submissions and after careful review with my case committee, we were able to identify the top cases and the winners to be featured in our competition.

We will have 5 regular cases, which are a maximum of 20 pages of narrative. 1 short case, which is more of a think on your feet type of case that will be presented on the Tues afternoon.

I have also been working with a company who has accepted to partner up with us to be our live-case. I am extremely excited to have them join us and cannot wait for you to discover what it is.

Judge Distribution

Our target is to have approximately 300 judges register for our competition. Roughly 60% will be returning judges, 20% will be leads and 20% will be new judges. One of my main initiatives for the judge recruitment this year is to increase the number of women who are involved with judging. We had 32 % last year and have set a target of 40% for this years competition. Ideally, working towards a 50:50 distribution in the years to come.28

IntroductionPresentationQ&A SessionDeliberation PeriodEvaluation

Using the comments from our coaches, participants and judges, we have compiled a table of the judges roles and responsibilities, along with the dos and donts at each point during the judging process.

Prior to the presentation, once the team of presenters arrive to the presentation room and you are given the ok from the judge coordinator to begin, please introduce yourselves. Keep the introduction short, provide your name, position and company your work for.

During the presentation, Id like to emphasize that you should be taking notes on how the team is performing, what aspects of the presentation and their analysis are strong or poor.

The Q&A session is quite short (15 min), so please ensure that each judge has sufficient time to ask their question. Be culturally sensitive, clear with your question. Do not undermine the students, do not lead the discussion nor initiate a debate.

Following the Q&A session, you will have 1 hour to deliberate with your panel of judges and to ensure that you have completed the online feedback form appropriately. Support your decisions with examples and consider alternative solutions. Provide constructive criticism and detailed comments, how they can improve.

All participants are required to participate during the presentation portion; however, they are permitted to elect only one individual from their team to answer all the questions during the Q&A session.

Once the deliberation is over, you can engage with the students but please do not discuss the case results with them.

IMPORTANCE OF SHOWING UPWe do not have back-upsApproximately 10-15 judges do not show up per caseNo shows will not be invited back next year

We are counting on you as of Monday, January 2nd!

Please attend once you are committed and scheduled for a case.Out of 90 judges that are required for cases 1-5, we typically have 10-15 judges that do not show up, which leaves the team scrambling to call people at the last minute to fill our judge panels. The participants are expecting 5 judge panels, and we are counting on you to attend once you have committed. Unfortunately, no shows without advanced explanations will not be invited back to judge at our competition. On a closing note, I am extremely excited to welcome you to the 36th edition of our competition and to kick off the New Year with this fascinating event!
