Overview

As part of the Digital Commonwealth project (www.digitalcommonwealth.co.uk), we have gathered together individuals and organisations who work and live community storytelling for a dedicated symposium to share good practice, identify the main challenges facing organisations and as well as helping to shape the next stages of our community media programme for the Big Lottery-funded Digital Commonwealth project.

We have contributions focused on the ethical dimensions of working with communities and discussion of good practice in the use of digital media to support and amplify storytelling in the community. With training and support at the heart of the aims of Digital Commonwealth project, we will also look to explore the ways in which participation and content creation within a community media and development setting can be recognised and developed through a programme of evidence based learning and what the opportunities and challenges are faced through working within this field.

We want the format of the day to be as interactive as possible, so will be developing a set of questions during the day to help shape discussions but also to allow the Digital Commonwealth team to learn from the expertise present to ensure that the resources and community training that will be provided as part of the next stage of the project reflect the best current community media practice landscape in Scotland.
