Character and Vocalization of Syllables

A syllable begins with a single consonant. exception: conjunction ו in the form ו.

Two vowels do not stand next to one another inside of a syllable exception: furtive patach

end with a vowel, including vowel letters

As a rule, open syllables have a long vowel.

end with an audible consonant

When unstressed, they have a short vowel.

When stressed, they normally have a long vowel.

Some forms appear with 2 consonants at the end of the word, but this is rare.

Syllables can be closed with consonants having a Dagesh forte.

General Rule:Qamets Chatuf appears in a closed, unaccented syllable.
