Smart Technology??

Technology can be the

knowledge of

techniques, processes,

etc. or it can be

embedded in machines,

computers, devices and

factories, which can be

operated by individuals

without detailed

knowledge.

Smart Machines

Smart machines are embedded with cognitive computing ability

which uses artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to

sense, learn, reason and interact with people in different ways.

These machines can think and solve problem accurately and

precisely, in order to provide the desired output.

These are the systems that use machine learning to perform work

traditionally conducted by humans in an effort to boost efficiency

and productivity.

Evolution of Smart Machines

How are they coming? Artificial Intelligence : Prerequisite

AI is making our computers and robots smarter everyday.

o Cognitive Computing :

Simulation of human thought processes in a computerized model.

It handles human kinds of problems; process of acquiring knowledge and understanding

through thought, experience, and the senses

o Machine learning :.

Provides computers with the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed.

that can learn from data

Human Computer Interaction

Some Applications…

Smart Shoe

Healthcare Robots

Humanoid Robot (e.g : Actroid)

Smart Home appliances like:

Smart Refrigerator

Smart Washing Machine

Smart Television

98% of controls are with your smart phone

Smart shoe Smart shoe is a smart technology footwear.

Introduced in Hyderabad, India in July 2014

connected to a smartphone application that uses Google maps

tell users when and where to turn to reach their destination.

Healthcare Robots

FRIEND - assist the elderly and disabled with common tasks.

Handy 1- rehabilitation robot; to enable people with severe disability to gain/regain independence in important daily living activities such

as: eating, drinking, washing, shaving, teeth cleaning and applying

makeup.

Humanoid Robot

Designed to imitate human movement, behavior, and

activities

sense, actuate, plan, control, and execute activities

ASIMO from Honda QRIO from Sony

ACTROID from Kokoro Co. and Advanced Media

Smart Refrigerator and Washing

Machine

Perform the tasks immediately and with high accuracy

Smart Machines will handle tasks that previously required human

judgment

Improved quality and productivity

Intelligent robots will help to reduce the labor force needed, increasing

the company's profit

Benefits

Risks

Many challenging questions are arising:

Will Smart machines take your job? :Jobs will be in threat

Robot Insurrection: Kill All Humans

Humans May Prefer Robot Lovers

Theft/crime

Leading to destruction or disruption due to competition

Future of Smart Machines Through 2025 Smart Machines era will blossom

These technologies are generally at an early stage of development, so it

will be necessary to consider the market at least as far out as 2024 to

obtain meaningful results.

The future sales of key enabling technologies for the next generation of

smart machines , such as :

• Virtual reality assistants(e.g.Siri)

• Intelligent Agents(e.g automated online assistants

• Expert systems(e.g. Medical decision support systems)

• Autonomous robots(including self-driving vehicles)

• Purpose built smart machines (such as neural computers)
