WHAT IS SEMIOTICS? Semiotics is known as the study of signs and symbols as well as

their interpretation which can also include how they can be communicated. Semiotics includes the study of signs, sign process, indication, designation, likeness, analogy, metaphor, symbolism, signification and communication.

Semiotics can show the word and understanding of how the landscape and culture in which we live has a huge impact on us unconsciously.

Signs dint always have t be visual they can also come in different types such as aural and sonic. An example been a police car siren which is heard before the car can be seen.

It has already been proven that we can understand that the same signs can signify and mean different things in different situations.

It is all depending on what context a sign is in as to how we as humans comprehend its real meaning. Which means we will be leading to an accurate response.

We use semiotics because it is a key tool that allows us to ensure that the intended meanings are unambiguously understood by the person who is receiving them.

Semiotics started out as an original academic investigation, which then eventually moved into examining peoples behaviour . This continued overtime to where it is now which is a methodology for researching and analysing consumer behaviour and brand communications.

semiotics is translated as the science of signification is often said to be created from two sources: F. de Saussure (a Swiss-French man, born in 1857 an died in 1913) and C.S Peirce ( an Anglo- American man who was born in 1839 and died in the year 1914)

GENERAL SEMIOTICS General semiotics is more likely to be in

the style of formalistic, abstract signs. These signs will come from contexts of use such as social semiotics “semiosis”. Semiosis tends to be more fundamental than the meaning of relations among signs, which may only be considered the only resources to be developed I making meaning.

MULTIMEDIA SEMIOTICS Multimedia semiotics is based around the one

principal making-meaning, this is because it is know to be a material process as well as a semiotic practice. Which necessarily overflows the analytical boundaries between idealised and distinct semiotic systems.

For example like language, gesture, depiction and action etc.

All material signs can be and mostly are constructed in relation to more than one system of sign relation. An example of this been written words as it is a linguistic sign.
