Sheffield Young Advisors
Who are we?
• A group of 21 trained young people aged between 16 and 19 years old
• We all come from a variety of backgrounds and areas of Sheffield, and have varied life experiences.
Who are we?
• We are employed, co-ordinated and supported by Sheffield Futures
• All young advisors hold the national Young Advisor qualification
• This is an accredited award gained through training from the national young advisor charity

What we do?
• We help organisations ‘youth proof’ their services, policies and strategies
• We speak out for young people, making sure their thoughts and feelings are considered in decisions that affect them
• We help organisations understand how to attract and maintain the interests of young people
• We actively engage directly with other young people to get them involved in improving their services in the city

• Worked with numerous young people’s services and organisations to improve provision in the city…
• Sexual health services• Future Shape of Education – Young Peoples
Priorities / Roma Slovak YP’s barriers to education
• Took part in building reviews / evaluating summer provision
• Various consultations e.g. surveys, dragons den activities
Currently working on…
• 0-19 safety (South Yorkshire Police) – looking at YP’s concerns re crime and keeping safe
• UTC (University Technical College)• Safeguarding board – Test purchasing /
education re illegal tattooing etc• Roma Slovak young peoples barriers to
education• Parsons Cross – learning zone review• Staff Interviews
We have also…
• Met with the Department of Communities and Local Government / various ministers to discuss future youth policy & discuss our ‘non’ riots in Sheffield
Our Awards
• December 2010 – the prestigious NYCVS Young Partner Award
• July 2011 – won the SCC Special Recognition Award for “a team who have gone above and beyond to support children and young people in Sheffield”
