Single colour stencilsStenciling is a way of decorating a surface with a pattern or design, using a cut-out template.
There are two kinds of stencil:
• Positive
• Negative

As with wallpapering, you need to plan where to start and consider:
• Room dimensions
• Access requirements
• Location of doors
• Windows
• Corners
• Number of repeats
• Stencil size and spacing

• Rule, tape measure, chalk line, pencil
• Stencil knives and stencil matt
• Palette and stencil brush
• Scraper
• Low tack masking tape

As with applying paint and producing decorative effects, poor workmanship when applying your stencil will result in:
Creep, smudging, paint lifting, uneven colour, bittiness, undue texture, uneven weight of colour over repeats, buckled or curled stencil plate.
