What is the Domestic Violence Law?

Dear Mrs. Macaulay,I am in a visiting

relationship with my baby father. We have been together for about 8 years and our daughter is 6 years old. During this last year, many times, he has cursed and beat me all over my body. Sometimes it happens with our daughter there and when she cries to him to stop beating Mummy, he screams at her and one time he actually hit her. Please help us, tell me what I should do to protect ourselves from him.

Thank you for your letter. I am sorry that you are a victim of abuse at the hands of your

Baby Father. I am incensed about your daughter

though. You must first terminate the relationship. He is no longer a loving friend and father but a violent controlling brute. To assist you in breaking up with him, and disabusing his mind that he has any right of access to your property or your person, you should go to the Family Court (or Resident Magistrate's Court if there is no Family Court in your parish) and make applications under the Domestic Violence Act of 2004
