MSU: short description

The Moldova State University is founded in 1946. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education in the country

There are 13 faculties with over 19,000 students The intellectual potential of MSU consists of over 1100 teachers, including

120 habilitat doctors, 521 doctors, 87 professors, 334 associate professors, 8 academicians, 19 correspondent members of ASM

The education is structured according to the requirements of the Bologna Process (Moldova is joined at this in 2005) into three levels:

- Bachelor studies (3 years, 180 credits)

- Master studies (2 years, 120 credits)

- Doctoral studies (3 years)

The Sociology and Social Work Faculty

It is one of the youngest faculties, founded in 2001 The Social Work specialty has been opened in 1998 The teaching staff of the faculty consists of

40 teachers, including 2 habilitat doctors and 10 doctors

The total number of the students is 786 At the Social Work specialty are studying: - at bachelor studies - 598 students - at master studies - 85 students

The Faculty has implemented and implements several projects financed by Tempus, INTAS, AUF, UNICEF and others international organizations which, of course, facilitate the students and teachers integration in Europe

Current implemented projects

“Professionalization of education in social work”(2008-2011) – TEMPUS project

"Moldavian Migrants in the Russian Federation" (2009-2011) is a bilateral international project, funded by the Governments of Moldova and the Russian Federation

"Support to the National Plan of action for working with children left without parental care as a consequence of migration" (2010-2012) – is funded by the Czech Agency for Development of the Czech Foreign Ministry, the International Organization for Migration in Moldova, United Nations Fund for Population in Moldova.

TEMPUS Project “Professionalisation of education in social work”

(2009 – 2011)

The main objectives of the Project are: the reformation of the educational programs

in accordance with recommendations of the Bologna Process;

the creation of three new specializations in the field of Social Work in accordance with the requirements of labor market.

Some major importance specializations for our society development have been established as a result of a national sociological research.Three of them have been opened in the academic year 2010/2011: - at the bachelor level: a) Social Assistance of Family and Child in Risk Situation b) Social Assistance of Elderly People. - at the master level: c) Management of Social Services.
