Record Labels

• Record labels Ed Sheeran has worked for are Asylum, Atlantic and Elektra.

• All of the record labels have the parent company of Warner Music Group, a large music company based in America. This would give him coverage all over the US and EU making him easy to notice and listen to.

• Asylum specializes in rock and alternative music making music that is different more noticable if it is under this label as they have had artists such as Cee Lo Green and New Boyz who would be relatively unknown.

Richard Dyer’s Rules

A star is an image, not a real person, that is

constructed (as any other aspect of fiction is) out of

a range of materials

Stars depend upon a range of subsidiary media

– magazines, TV, radio, the internet – in order

to construct an image for themselves which can

be marketed to their target audiences.

The star image is made up of a range of

meanings which are attractive to the target

Paradoxes

• The star must be simultaneously ordinary and extraordinary for

the consumer.

• They are seen as a normal person but they are doing the dream

job of millions of people which would make them be seen as

extraordinary.

• The star must be simultaneously present and absent for the

consumer.

• The stars bears a close resemblance to the viewer but then the

popularity of the artist makes this idea extremely light and

makes it seem like he is not a friend or close to the viewer.

Our star

• The image that we will create for our performer will be

very similar to this, ensuring he is seen as normal person

that you could know like a friend, by using casual

clothing, accessible locations from filming, narrative in

the video that they can relate to.

• Using the common values youthfulness, creativity and

originality like Ed Sheeran gives our star the same styled

image as him.
