Start and End of Month of Ramadan According to the majority of Ulma, the month of Ramadan begins when the month of Sha'ban reached thirty full days, or when the new moon is seen, if only by one person of integrity because of the hadeeth narrated by Abdullah ibn 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him. He said in the hadith: “People began to scan the horizon in search of the new moon (of Ramadan). I informed the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) I saw this moon. He fasted and ordered the people to fast. "(Abu Dawood). Another group of Ulma believes that the beginning of Ramadan cannot be confirmed by the sighting of the new moon by two persons of integrity as is the case for the new moon of the month of Shawwal. They are based on the hadeeth of 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd who, doubting the beginning of Ramadan gave a speech and said: "I rubbed the Companions of the Prophet (Peace Be upon Him) and they told me that the Prophet (Peace Be upon Him) had said: “Fast when you see the new moon (of Ramadan) and break your fast when you see the new moon (of Shawwal). If clouds prevent you see, consider the month lasts thirty days. And complete the pilgrimage and sacrifice according to this observation. If two just witnesses and Muslims observe the new moon, fast and break your fast after their sighting of the new moon. "(Ahmed). There is also the hadith of the Emir of Makah, al-Harith ibn Hatib, who said: " The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) ordered us to perform the pilgrimage and sacrifice upon the sighting of the new moon. If we do not observe and integrate two witnesses observe, we adapt our rites according to their observation. "(Abu Dawood). Majority of Ulma however argues that the observation of the two witnesses is required in the case where the observation of a single person is not expressed verbally and explicitly, in the case where that person waved his hand from the top of a mountain. If, however, this person verbally testifies she observed the new moon, his testimony must be accepted as the oral testimony is more credible. Start and End of Month of Ramadan

According to the majority of Ulma, the month of Ramadan begins when the month of Sha'ban reached thirty full days, or when the new moon is seen, if only by one person of integrity because of the hadeeth narrated by Abdullah ibn 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him.

They are based on the hadeeth of 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd who, doubting the beginning of Ramadan gave a speech and said: "I rubbed the Companions of the Prophet (Peace Be upon Him) and they told me that the Prophet (Peace Be upon Him) had said:

Pending that Islamic states agree on the method to be followed, each population should fast according to what is established by the State to which it belongs. It should not be divided into two groups, one that conforms to what is established by the state, and another group who did not comply, and following another State where the fast begins before or after because it broadens the circle of differences. It's the same for a person who sees only the new moon, it must not only fast any given hadith of the Prophet (Peace Be upon Him):

“The day of your fast is when you fast together, and the day of breaking the fast is when you break your fast together, and the day of Eid al-Adha is when you celebrate together the day of al-Adha" (Tirmidhi, with similar terms).

According to scientists, this means that we must fast and break the fast with all Muslims, but one that is in an isolated area where there is no one else that he should fast when observe the new moon because there is that alone at this point.
