Swiss chemist named Aime Argand invented a lamp with the wick bent into the shape of a hollow cylinder.

UNTILL…Walter Murdock, a Scottish inventor found out that coal gas could burn for lamps.

Street lamps appeared in other small towns across America around 1875.

You got paid $13.33 to go around and light the street lamps.
