• The path is as follows:
– Graduate from High-School
– Go to College
– Get your BA degree
• Once the above was finished then it was time to go out and find one of the many jobs available for your degree type.

• While the traditional path for success worked great for many years, the rules have changed as of recently.
• While education is still as important as ever, the traditional “university experience” is not as relevant as it used to be.
• Many individuals end their university career and find that the market no longer supports their training.

• To understand why the rules have changed, we have to look at a few major events that happened in the last decade.
• The Dot.Com bust was the first of the major changes in the path to success. The Nadaq plummeted to 78% of its value.
• The recent housing crash has had major effect on employment. Whereas the S&P decreased by 57%, it was the global nature of the crisis which was devastating.

• When the economy hit the toilet, businesses were forced to improvise to stay afloat.
• This meant that businesses had to layoff employees and learn to do just as much with fewer workers. As things began to stabilize, these same businesses realized that they were making just as much money.
• Because profits are as good as ever, businesses are loathe to rehire.

• The first effect of the new rules is that entry-level jobs pay a low salary.
• Most people don’t want to accept such a poor work deal, but unfortunately the number of jobs have decreased as well. With the added competition, businesses have employees over a barrel.
• Poor benefits are another unintended consequence of the financial crisis’.

• Due to these changes people have been forced to rethink the traditional path to success of high-school, college BA, and then onto a job.
• Many have tried their hand at starting their own business or doing freelance working from home.
• Unfortunately, these often come up against the same problems as before. Namely, low wages and high competition.

• Trade schools have become the new path to success. Classes are inexpensive and in many instance can be finished in as little as 6 months.
• Continuing education online has opened the door for people to target industries which are still prospering and for which there is still a demand.
• This means getting back into the marketplace quickly and making a good salary again.
