TARGET AUDIENCE PROFILE RESEARCH

WHAT IS THE TASK?

This task is to research target audience profiles. For this task I needed to use a website called www.uktribes.com to define a perfect audience member. To identify my target audience I needed to look at their age, gender, tribes and interests.

Page 3: Target audience profile

The age of our target audience would be 15 and up. This age group can relate to the teenage lifestyles of the main characters. The gender that would be interested in this film will be females because most of the characters are female and the film is female dominated.

The audience’s interests would be clothes, music and life on the streets.

Since all characters have different dress sense this particular age group would have different groups that can relate to each characters dressing. For example the orphan in our film wears all black, gothics could be attracted to her dress code since they always wear black.

The tribe that they would belong to is the blingers because like the characters they all have their own dress sense and feel comfortable in what they wear. On the other hand ghetto goths will also be suitable as they are attracted to dark clothing, piercings, tattoos and heavy rock music. Both tribes express themselves through clothing.

The audience may also wear smart, casual clothing, fashionable or under fashioned clothes.

The type of entertainment that they would be in to are loud music and scary films. The other thriller films that they would be interested in is action thriller because it is adventurous which builds anticipation as the protagonist fights for themselves and travels from one place to another.

My film would be the type that they would like because it shares the experience of how the main character lives with her mental illnesses it can also educate them on how severe a mental illness can be and that people in society are different. These mental illnesses portray her as the serial killer which gives away two identities which the TA may also have. My film will also present the types of tribes that live in society today.

How will I show who the audience is in my title sequence? In my title sequence the target audience will be revealed through the use of fonts and the size of the fonts. The writing would be big and bold with the font in a size 22. The fonts are layered on top of each other which is also known as deposition demo regular. This represents the lifestyle of the young girls from age 16 and the tribes/social groups they belong to. Also how they will appear on screen will be effective because they would appear in a flashy, scratchy way and fade slowly which may reflect the minds of young girls. How will I represent people in my opening sequence and how will I show who

the audience is?In my opening sequence I will represent people through the characters, particularly the main character. The purpose of the character is to represent the people will mental illnesses, she is also used as a warning to people to remind them that life is a precious gift and we must do everything we can until it ends. The main character is used as a message. Blingers and ghetto goths will be represented through the use of clothing as they both have their different way of dressing which reflects young girls’ comfortability. Another way people will be represented is through the use of characteristics. The opening sequence first shows 3 main characters and each represent young girls’ characteristics. You have the serial killer who is weird and creepy, the best friend who is lively, friendly and outgoing and the orphan who is lonely and isolated.

PSYCHOGRAPHICS What motivates my audience? The Reformer: The main character has this of attitude of “Don’t tell me what to do” and does what she wants which means she values her independence. This may influence the audience to do what they wish without letting anyone stop them. Reformers are socially aware, this is represented by the main character as she looks out for people who she feels that are dangerous and defends herself. However, people like the main character can be placed on edge of society because of their illness and disability. The Struggler: This film is suitable for this particular target audience because like the characters they live everyday like it is their last and plan the future ahead. However, the main character and the extra character are seen as victims and wasters until something new happens in their life. The Aspirer: All the characters have different personalities and have people identifying what they see in each character. How the audience see themselves and how others see them has an impact on their personality. They grow to do things that impress others.

EVALUATION

After completing this task I have a clear understanding of what a target audience is. A target audience is a particular group at which a product such as a film or advertisement is aimed. I also understand that another way of identifying your target audience is by researching the tribes in today’s society and their interests in relation to my opening sequence.
