Advertising and marketing-
Irn Bru
The first type of advertisement that I looked
into was the Irn Bru posters. The aim of
these adverts is to draw the catch the
audiences attention without them really
knowing what the product is as the pictures
do not relate to the product at all but once
the audience read the quotations next to
the images it adds the comedy element to
the advertisement. The product all have
the same have the same layout and house
styling from the images being on the same
side, background colour, font and font
colour. The logo was also placed in the
exact same placing for each advertisement
which also increases the house styling and
makes the products look more
professional.
The second kind of Irn Bru advertisement
that I looked into was the poster
advertisements for sugar free Irn Bru. The
aim of these advertisement is to bring more
awareness to the sugar free Irn Bru, the
company have chosen to express this
feature by including a picture twice but
including “sugar free” text on one, the aim
of this is to show that there is no difference
between the two product except that one is
simply is sugar free and by showing this
fact how they have it adds a amusing
feature to the advertisement. Irn Bru have
also remained the same house styling
throughout these advertisements with the
same use of layout and the same colour
pallet .
The third Irn Bru advert I looked into was a
television advert, the aim of the advert was
to bring awareness to the product but in a
way that it can refer to all age groups. The
theme of the advert is the comedy between
the product originating from Scotland and
how Irn Bru is a true element of Scotland
and in the advert Irn Bru is taking the place
as medication to calm anger. They have
also paid close attention to keep the
product on the screen for the majority of
the advert which I thought was clever
because it really allows the audience to
focus on the product.
The forth kind of Irn Bru advertisement I looked at was the website, I believe that
by a product having a website in helps with increasing publicity and in this case
not just for one product but also for all the other product that they have to offer to
the public. They have kept the same house styling even on the website with the
colour palate of orange and blue tones which gives the company a professional
look. By including images of all the different products they sell will increase
publicity and may increase sales on the products; on the website they also for
the audience to view their old campaigns so they can re-live the amusement.
The packing of Irn Bru 32 is has been created around the
same theme of other Irn Bru products which I believe is a
good idea as it would be easily recognisable to their
previous customers. They have made this product
different to their other products mixing around the colour
positions for example the main Irn Bru packaging uses
orange as the main background colour whereas in this
packaging they have used blue as the background colour
and used the orange colour for details. By also making
the '32' the centre piece of the can it has become the first
thing that catches the potential customers attention
whereas on their original can designs the main attraction
is the Irn Bru logo but on the Irn Bru 32 can design the
main logo has been presented as a small detail in silver
font colour.
The Red Bull can design is simple yet
professional, also the use of the shapes
and the contrast of the colours make the
can look unique compared to other cans
which will grab the customers attention.
Another creative feature about this product
is the use of the logo matching the name of
the product which may seem amusing to
some and original to others. The Red Bull
can compared to Irn Bru 32 can is laid out
much better and have used the features
cleverly, both products have used the
same amount of colours but comparing the
Irn Bru 32 colour palate to the Red Bull
colour scheme it shows that choosing
colours that contrast and clash well
together will help with the features to stand
out more.
Another product that I choose to analyse is the energy drink Monster
website, Monster seem to have more of a masculine approach and looks the
product is aimed to the male audience. The websites theme is Call of Duty
which has become a major hit with males aged 16+ which would bring
publicity to the product, comparing this website to the Irn Bru website you
notice that the Irn Bru website doesn't really have a age group or a gender
that its aimed to. Another difference about the two websites is the colour
schemes, Irn Bru colour scheme is colourful and inviting for the audience
whereas the Monster website have chosen to us black which had made the
website look dull and gothic.
Another poster I looked into was the
Lucozade energy drinks. This posters aim
was to bring the product to all audiences
attention but it seem like they have based
their advertisements for adults. They have
used their house styling of the orange
theme in this poster which is known to give
a professional finish but it seem like in this
case that hasn't seemed to have worked as
they have used orange for all of the feature
which hasn't created the illusion that was
expected. The layout of the text being
separated doesn't look good because of
the image being so big people may not
ignore the top text.
The last product that I looked into is the
Red Bull campaign The aim of this poster
is to bring awareness to the product, they
have created a theme of cartoon with and
the can flying which matches the slogan of
the brand “Red Bull gives you wing. The
colour scheme of the poster is created
using bright colours which draws the
customers attention and because of the
use of light colours it allows the bold
colours of the actual product standout. The
use of adding a larger copy of the products
logo in the corner makes the company
stand out also by adding the products
website in the corner would increase the
publicity.
