To understand the concepts and principles of capacitor.
To know how to measure capacitance.
To know type of capacitor.
To know the advantages and disadvantages of capacitor.
To know how to built series and parallel circuit using
capacitor
OBJECTIVE
A capacitor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that stores electric energy in an electric field.
The forms, styles and materials of practical capacitors very widely, but all contain at least two electrical conductors (plates) separated by an insulating layer, the dielectric.
Capacitors are widely used as parts of electrical circuits in many common electrical devices.
WHAT IS CAPACITOR
•A device used to store charge in an electrical circuit. A
capacitor functions much like a battery, but charges and
discharges much more efficiently (batteries, though, can
store much more charge)
•But the many circuit phenomena generated by such a basic
charge and discharge action of extending make the
capacitor have various different purpose, for example, in the
electric motor and we use it to produce a phase shift in
photoflash
FUNTIONS OF CAPACITOR
Symbol Name Description
Capacitor Capacitor is used to store electric charge. It acts as short circuit with AC and open circuit with DC.

NOTES
CERAMIC pF - μF High - Multipurpose- Cheap
MICA pF - nF High - Expensive- Very stable
ELECTROLYTIC
High μF Low - Cheap- Hold charge for long time
POLYESTER High μF High - Cheap
PLASTIC High μF High - Cheap
ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
Very good and faster in storing small quantities of electrical energy.
it absorbent energy from lightning shot altogether and keep charge in a few moments before discharge an energy again
can save the usage of electricity
charging electricity in usable capacitor to help main supply to be channelled to light burden like light
In series, can be cause of overcompensing voltage
In parallel, if one capacitor fails, it will not function
capacitor will damage when over charge and voltage imposed
